Secondary Schools Exchange International Program (SSEI) Launched

Los Angeles, May 4, 2009 - The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Los Angeles is pleased to announce that our Ministry of Education has recently launched a Secondary Schools Exchange International Program (SSEI) to promote senior high school international academic exchange opportunities.

The newly-released SSEI program is aimed at developing an international approach to secondary education, with the singular purpose of diversifying learning opportunities and providing a mutually-beneficial, international learning environment for secondary school students. It not only gives students from Taiwan the opportunity to have an international educational experience, but also invites students from all over the world to come into contact with life and culture in Taiwan.

SSEI consists of two types of programs. They are:

Ø          "Visiting Taiwan," which invites international students to come to Taiwan to study Chinese language and to experience the unique hybrid culture of Taiwan, and

Ø          "Hosting Visits from Taiwan," in which high school students of Taiwan visit foreign countries and are able to broaden their horizons and foster global understanding.

Based on proposals submitted by schools in Taiwan, schools located in the U.S. and beyond will be able to select one or more programs that best meet the needs of their students to collaborate with our local schools. Under the SSEI program, our secondary schools are eligible to apply for MOE funding to partially cover the necessary expenses.

To support the promotion of this program, and to provide a fast and convenient information platform, the SSEI programs can be accessed via our designated website at http://www.exchange.edu.tw.This website includes an introduction to the SSEI program as well as the core function- International Exchange Window (IEW), which not only provides posting information about projects in secondary schools in Taiwan, but also includes an upload mechanism for international exchange opportunities from around the globe. Through the IEW, educational institutes can access information on current projects and be instantly connected with any potential partner school in Taiwan; moreover, they can provide information on their current exchange opportunities to Taiwanese partner schools.

We would like to invite you to partner with our secondary schools in the way of hosting, as well as to take good advantage of this great opportunity to work with our schools to arrange study tours for your students.  For more detailed information, please click on the following link: http://www.exchange.edu.tw.
